Sephora O’Leary, new president of the European Court of Human Rights
The European Court of Human Rights announced on Monday the appointment of the Irishman, Sophra O’Leary, to head the court, in a historic precedent.
According to Deutsche Welle, this is the first time that a woman has been appointed to the presidency of the European Court of Human Right
O’Leary, 35, was born in the Irish capital, Dublin, and was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights.
And she was appointed as the deputy head of the court since last January.
O’Leary will serve as a judge for three years.
In June, Russia passed two laws allowing it to stop implementing decisions of the
European Court of Human Rights.s.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed laws on non-implementation of the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights in Russia after 15 March.
Under the decision, the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights will cease to be the basis for reviewing decisions issued by the courts of the Russian Federation, according to the Russian “Sputnik” agency.
