How do I add MySQL functionality to my website?

I’m building a website for the school I work for to manage admin data for students. Attendance, personal details, examination details etc. Basically a SMS (School Management System).

I’ve built the MySQL db and I’d like it to function from a web-based app (built the website too.)

I need help with marrying the MySQL db to the website so I can have CRUD functionality within the website tailored to specific outcomes (I.e. viewing/updating student info, viewing timetables, etc.)

My research keeps point me to php to do this, but I’d like to stay away. I’ve read that java is the way to go for something like this (Connector/J) as it scales well and is good at complex tasks. How do I do this? (If you know of a better way, I’m all ears)

FYI – I’m a bit of a noob lol. I’d appreciate your help!
