The best way to manage and save posts in my own blog?

I am now building my own blog and working on the database part. In fact, I have tried CKEditor (rich text format) before and it works but seems like this is not how popular blogs do in the real world. I have no idea how developers manage and save posts. Do they save the post in text or HTML format? Or there is another way to save and manage posts?
